India one

Many people describe india as a marriage. when you first arrive everything is so beautiful and exotic and exciting. this lasts for some time until you start to discover some of the less attractive qualities. then the lesser qualities start to become more prevalant than the new and exciting, and you start to hate it. then the cycle renews itself and the honeymoon stage is reborn. you either love india and you hate india or you hate india and you love india. i have been here for two days now and this cycle has already repeated itself several times. i expect

ed to be bombarded at the airport by hundreds of taxi drivers pulling my shirt, begging to give me a ride and offering "cheap price, great deal for you my sir" but was sort of disapointed by the lack of intensity that i had expected from this nation of notorious hagglers. i checked out the sights of delhi yesterday and met up with the volunteer agency that i will be working with. humayuns tomb was probably the highlight, it was built by the same ruler that constructed the taj mahal. after seeing this tomb, i have totally refigured what i want my personal grave to look like. i was initially ready to have my ashes thrown off a cliff overlooking the water but after seeing this magnificent structure i feel that i deserve more. i really dont think that you can understand the true definition of hot until you have experienced india. i am not sure if it is due to the geographical location or the fact that a country one third the size of my own serves home to four times the population. theres nothing like swimming in a pool of hot indians after you have all consumed hot and spicy indian cuisine. i guess when i started seeing thousands of indians arrive in nepal to beat the heat i should have understood. and to think that this culture shuns the wearing of shorts really makes zero sense to me. it would take me a three lifetimes to try and comprehend the cultural make up of this nation. my senses are definitely on overdrive and thus far india is all that i could ask for. new and exciting.

Michael,
Glad you made it safely to India. If think I would just be a puddle at your feet if I experienced the intense heat that you describe. Try dreaming of the extreme cold you experienced on the trek, to get some relief!
Lots of love, and we're looking forward to hearing about your volunteer job.

Michael,
Your travels are so enjoyable to follow. Glad you can be the reckless one and I am taking the piggyback ride ;) The reverse of our travels through Stone Harbor on your moms bike. I LOVE the pictures. You never miss a moment to take a monkey picture. Like a gnome that follows you everywhere.
