India six

when i told the driver that i wanted to get to manali as fast as possible i did not realize how seriously he would grant my request. surely one of the most regretful requests that i have ever made. the drive from palampur to manali was a seven hours of my life flashing before my eyes. as we hugged onto the narrow road as it hung onto himalaya cliffs descending thousands of feet i constantly found my organs piling up in my throat. manali is a beautiful town that is on a mountain side with rivers cutting through the landscape like vericose vains. though a small group of us could only leave for a couple of days it is nice to get away for a short while. the sights here are less than average as far as temples and history are concerned but the place itself has a great laid back feel. you always have to look your best in india because photo ops are constant. it is so weird to be at an ancient temple and have people chasing you around to get a picture with you. i dont think they bring their cameras to these locations to take pictures of the sights but of the western faces that they run into. by the end of this month i will be framed and sitting on mantles all over this crazy country, all so these people can tell their friends about their great friend from america who they will visit one day and acquire a very high paying job from.

Michael,
Sounds like you are enjoying your teaching experience. After teaching for 31 years I felt everyone in the U.S. should teach 2years, almost like serving in the military. Sometimes it's more dangerous. The urine helicoptor! I'm sure the kids are lovin' you. Keep art alive in India. Love, Leslie
